Miami Consulting Services (MCS) is a government registered organization. MCS is committed to capacity building, innovation, networking and collaboration to support in order to strengthen and empower the local bodies of Nepal.
Miami Consulting Services (MCS) is the only consulting agency In Nepal which provides advisory services to the municipalities in Nepal on municipal internation relations.
Primarily MCS puts emphasis to promoting Municipal International Relations (MIR) in order to strengthen the local bodies to be able to explore and utilize the international expertise, experience and best practices to the local governments in Nepal.
Context
The responsibility of the management and operation of international relations in the present world is not limited to the state only. The non-state stakeholders such as cities, non-governmental and private sector organizations have increasingly entered into the scene with regard to the international relations. In this connection, a comprehensive network of local authorities is active today in the world. These institutions are contributing to build programmatic, networking and collaboration in terms of relationship among cities and their international organizations to strengthen the capacity of local governments. These institutions are playing active and constructive role in the world forum regarding the role, importance and contribution on matters related to sustainable development, environment and climate change, millennium development goal and other burning issues.
In Nepal the issue of establishment and promotion of international relation in the local level is less attended and over shadowed and at the same time, is ignored by policy planners and decision-makers in Nepal. This area has been considered as completely unproductive in Nepal. But the expenses made in this sector in the local authority level are basically an appropriate form of investment.
The time has come now to expand the promotion of international relation being practiced by the few municipalities to all local authorities in Nepal so that advantage can be achieved in compare to the investment made in this area. The activities with regard to international relations in the local authority in Nepal is not encouraging, however, its orientation is set to right direction.
Engagement in international relations facilitates for access to knowledge, information, cooperation, technology, international network, best practices, technical and economic assistance, important information sharing including exchange of visits through the relations regarding city-to-city relations and organizations active in international field. It also contributes to create environment conducive for the utilization of such international resources for local governments. It also provides ample information regarding the access and possibility of economic and technical cooperation in different sectors of the local government in terms of grant.
